SCOTTIES BY THE NUMBERS
In 2018, the AKC reported having 580,446 dogs registered, including FSS Registrations, Conditional Registrations, Open Registrations and Foreign Registrations.
Of these registrations, 25,124 of the total registrations were in the Terrier Group.
Scottish Terriers make up 1,529 dogs in the Terrier Group. Today, there are 900 fewer Scotties registered with the AKC than there were 10 years ago (2,429 dogs in 2008).
In 2018, there were:
1,006 Scotties were born, with females (628) out numbering males by 2:1 (638).
1/3 of all Scotties compete in conformation (518 dogs). This is a 7.9% increase over 2017 and the first time in 9 years that our breed has reversed a decline in conformation.
The number of companion Scotties remains unchanged since 2017 at 93 dogs.
35 Scotties placed in Performance, a 29% increase over 2017.
